Marines Get Hands-On With Latest Combat Gear at Tactical Expo
The ADS Tactical Expo gave Marines the chance to experience the latest tactical and logistical support gear ranging from medical equipment to laser gun sights.
Camp Pendleton Marines had the opportunity to try out the latest combat and support gear Wednesday during the ADS Tactical Expo held at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.
The event, organized by defense contractor ADS, brought about 30 different vendors to Camp Pendleton that specialize in combat and logistical support gear ranging from socks to advanced night vision goggles and medical equipment.
“[The Marines] get to see the latest and greatest gear that is available to them,” said ADS Western Regional Account Manager OJ Sosa. “They get to see authorized gear that they can go out and procure and use,” he said.

On one side of the ballroom sat a life-sized and hyper-realistic medical dummy complete with gushing blood, battle wounds, and a lifelike skin and bone structure. At other booths, the latest knifes, laser gun sights, and military boots sat on display.
Sgt. Alfred Nieto with the 1st MHG was one of the many Marines at the event and stood at a table showing off moisture-wicking socks. “I am very big on feet,” said Nieto. “I spend a lot of time on them,” he said.

Nieto also said events such as Wednesday’s tactical expo are a good way for Marines to see what is actually practical to use on the battlefield.
“I believe that [Marines] need to be aware of what is out there,” said Nieto. “Nowadays, there are so many people making so many different types of gear; now I know what I can look for.”
ADS National Sales Manager Levi Wilson also touted the benefits of the event and the ability of Marines to get hands-on with different equipment. “They can touch, they can feel, and they can see,” he said.
