Woman Killed In Fatal North County Hit-And-Run Crash ID'd
She had just parked and exited her car, authorities said.
CARLSBAD, CA — Authorities have publicly identified a woman who was killed this week in a hit-and-run crash in North County.
Karla Leyva, 23, had just parked and exited her car when she was struck by a vehicle at 12:37 a.m. Tuesday in the 2200 block of Las Palmas Drive in Carlsbad, according to the Carlsbad Police Department and San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.
"As she was standing next to the vehicle, another vehicle failed to negotiate the curve and struck the decedent and her vehicle," the Medical Examiner's Office said in a news release.

Leyva, a Carlsbad resident, died at the scene.
The driver of the other vehicle fled the area, but was later found in the 6600 block of El Camino Real, according to police.

Jose Manuel Zambrano Cruz, 26, of Carlsbad was arrested on suspicion of felony hit and run, DUI causing injury or death, and vehicular manslaughter, police said. He was booked into the Vista Detention Facility.
