- Amtrak service has been discontinued for at least two months, for emergency track repairs on the coastal route from LA through southern San Clemente in Orange County to San Diego. The Orange County Transportation Authority hired a geo-technical firm to immediately begin "emergency stabilization work" on the shifting tracks "to safely restore passenger rail service as soon as possible."(Times of San Diego)
- A former Orange County police officer, who lost a leg after a collision with a drunk driver, will receive a new home from the Gary Sinise Foundation. The new home is being built for a former Orange police officer, Sharif Muzayen, 38, who lost a leg after being hit by a drunk driver while on duty in 2016. Muzayen is a veteran of the Marine Corps and served five years as an OC police officer. (Orange County Patch)
- An OC "romance scammer" faces 30 years in prison for a $1 million swindle. An Irvine man is expected to plead guilty Monday to federal charges for allegedly scamming $1 million from former romantic partners. Ze'Shawn Stanley Campbell, 35, is accused of stealing money from at least ten victims "by lying about his wealth, his ownership of various businesses, his success in investing money, and his service in the military." After convincing romantic partners and others that he was successful, he asked for money "to support his businesses and to pay medical bills, according to the indictment filed in L.A. federal court."
