Here are the top 3 stories today in Orange County:
- A shout out to thousand of Orange County volunteers who picked up trash and cleaned beaches! O.C. residents collected thousands of pounds of trash on International Coastal Cleanup Day. It was "the largest volunteer effort on the planet." In the state-wide effort to keep trash from reaching the ocean, thousands of eager volunteers picked up trash in creeks and along shorelines on Saturday, Sept. 17. - A dispute between a wealthy republican donor's chain link fence and environmentalists has become a "war." Wealthy Republican donor, Buck Johns, put up a chain link fence where he has a private home on a bluff overlooking Newport Beach's Back Bay. The Coastal Commission warned Orange County that they can not sell public land, and the fence "is a violation of the Coastal Act, which defines how the state’s coastline is developed or protected from development." Supervisor Katrina Foley said, "The fence needs to come down. It's not for sale. It's government property." (O.C. Register)
- A bat found in an Orange County parking lot tested positive for rabies on Wednesday, and health officials are warning O.C. residents to be cautious. The bat was found Wednesday around 10:30 a.m. at Pickleball Court No. 1 at the Fountain Valley Tennis Center on 16400 Brookhurst Street. the Orange County Health Care Agency said. Residents were asked to be on alert and to avoid contact with bats or other wild animals. (Orange County Patch)
