Here are the top stories today in Orange County:
- Lights! Camera! Filming in Garden Grove! The Garden Grove City Council voted 6-0 to bring more film production to the area. The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to take steps to make Garden Grove an attractive Orange County film and production location. Council member Kim Nguyen (District 6), who originally raised the idea, said Garden Grove has "a variety of film-worthy locations," and said that the city's hotels were less expensive for casts and crews. She noted, "The 2013 film Star Trek Into the Darkness used the Crystal (now Christ) Cathedral as a location for some scenes." (ORANGE COUNTY TRIBUNE)
- Police have caught over 800 illegal street racers in a crackdown in Orange County. The crackdown came after the Orange County District Attorney’s Office joined 10 other Orange County law enforcement agencies, including the California Highway Patrol, to form an anti-street racing coalition in April 2022. Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer said, “No one — and I mean no one — gets to kill an innocent bystander in pursuit of a high-speed adrenaline rush and get away with it in Orange County.”(KTLA Los Angeles)
- If you're headed to the Pacific Airshow in Huntington Beach this weekend, here's what you need to know before you go: This three-day event, now in its sixth year, brings world-class military aviators and civilian performers for a three-day show. The event kick-off is on Friday, Sept. 30. The airplane performances and flights will start at about 10:30 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.m. each day. Thousands of people are expected to attend, so be prepared, organizers said. Bring hats, sunscreen, water and snacks. Planes can be loud, so bring ear plugs for children and keep pets with sensitive ears at home. "Gates open at 9 a.m. for ticketed areas, so get there early to secure your spot."
