Here are the top stories today in Orange County:
- Gas prices are on a steady decline for the 11th day in a row in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. After seeing gas prices rise to record highs, the average price of gas in Orange County has dropped "39.1 cents over the past 11 days, including 5.9 cents Saturday." The drop in gas prices totaling$1.342 that started the day after the record high was set. That's good news for California drivers. At least, for now. (KABC-TV)
- Take a ghosty tour in San Juan Capistrano walking down California's oldest residential street. The Historical Society's annual Ghosts and Legends Tour on Los Rios Street in San Juan Capistrano "just keeps getting better and better every year." Stroll down California's oldest residential street Friday, Oct. 28, and Saturday, Oct. 29 to be surprised "by ghosts from the past reaching out from behind trees, buildings and shrubs." Call the Historical Society at 949.493.4056 to find out more about this event. (Capistrano Dispatch)
- Is your Orange County City at risk of a financial meltdown? As revenues trend downward, financially stronger OC cities were at lower risk of financial meltdown, according to a recent OC Register list. They are "younger, 'contract cities' that don’t have their own (very expensive) police and fire departments (and expensive pensions that go with them)." OC cities and towns that have raised taxes and fees, paid down pension debt, and set aside money for health benefits promised to retirees were at less risk.
