- Did you know that the Rose Bowl was built in 1922? It's recognized as a U.S. National Historic Landmark and a California Historic Civil Engineering landmark. Take a look back at the stadium's 100-year history here: (Orange County Register via Facebook)
- Are you wondering who Orange County’s biggest water savers or wasters are? The Water Resource Control Board and the governor, who need SoCal to decrease water consumption by 15 percent, are encouraging water savers to lead the way for a more sustainable future as the planet overheats. The monthly list said June’s biggest savers were "Mesa Water District, Seal Beach, La Habra, La Palma, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach and Brea," while June’s biggest water users were "Orange, San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, Anaheim and the Trabuco Canyon Water District (though the latter has quarreled with the state’s numbers)" Let's all help save water, O.C. (OC Register)
- Is there a big flood coming? In the headlines this week, a report came out saying that "a disastrous Megaflood" may be coming to California. A 1,000-year flash flood, fueled by shifts in climate, " could be the most expensive natural disaster in the state's history." A new study by Science Advances shows that climate change "has already doubled the chances of a disastrous flood happening in California in the next four decades." Experts say that climate change is "increasing the likelihood of these catastrophic disasters, causing them to occur more like every 25 to 50 years." And we thought we were all worried about the next big earthquake. (Orange County Patch)
