Here are the top stories in Orange County today:

1. A $444M U.S. military contract has been awarded to Parker Aerospace in Irvine, bringing more than 50 new jobs to Orange County. Parker Aerospace is one of Orange County’s larger aerospace employers. The Defense Logistics Agency and the U.S. Air Force announced last month that they had awarded the contract to Parker Aerospace for “actuator” support work. Actuators control an airplane's movements using rudders and flaps to steer A-10, E-3, F-15, F-16 and KC-135 military airplanes. (Subscription/Orange County Business Journal)
2. The Hotel Irvine, which had been closed since during the height of the pandemic in 2020, has been sold to Hyatt for $135 million. The Irvine Co. said they sold the 541-room Hotel Irvine "completing its exit from business hotels."The Newport Beach-based real estate company also sold its Fashion Island Hotel to a group of investors. Hyatt said they will own and manage Hotel Irvine under the Hyatt Regency brand "after an extensive renovation." (Vigour Times)
3. A rockslide shut down a road and there was a brush fire near a roadway reported Tuesday morning. If you were driving in San Diego County on Tuesday, a road was closed after a large overnight rockslide on Sweeny Pass Road near Great Southern Overland Street. In San Bernadino County, a brush fire slowed traffic on Gavilan Road near Cajalco Road.
