Man In Wheelchair Struck, Killed By Car While Crossing Street

A man in a wheelchair died after he was hit by a car crossing a Fullerton intersection, police said Friday.

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — A man in a wheelchair died after he was hit by a car crossing a Fullerton intersection, police said Friday.

The crash was reported around 10:50 a.m. Thursday near West Commonwealth Avenue and Library Lane, according to the Fullerton Police Department.

Upon arriving, officers immediately began life-saving procedures on the victim, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not immediately released.

The initial investigation revealed the man in the wheelchair tried to cross northbound at the intersection while the traffic signal was red and was struck by a gray Hyundai that was westbound on Commonwealth, Wells said.

The 41-year-old Fullerton man driving the Hyundai remained at the scene and police said he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

"Investigators did locate alcohol at the scene believed to belong to the pedestrian," she said.
