Here are the top 3 stories today in Orange County:

  1. Planes may be flying a lot quieter thanks to a new Noise Accountability program at The John Wayne Airport (JWA). The Fly Friendly program educates pilots about the safest and quietest departures from the airport. On Wednesday, JWA introduced the Fly Friendly program to reduce noise and pollution. Airport leadership introduced the new campaign to educate local pilots. (Orange County Business Journal)
  2. Nick Jonas will perform at The City of Hope in Costa Mesa to honor O.C. Philanthropist Julia Argyros. The City of Hope, one of the largest cancer research and treatment organizations in the United States, announced that Grammy-nominated recording artist Nick Jonas will perform at the upcoming “Hope Gala” at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts . Jonas said, “As someone whose family has been impacted by cancer, I am honored to lend my voice to the important cause of expanding access to world-renowned cancer care.” (The Bakersfield Californian) (The Bakersfield Californian)
  3. Local animal activists are pleading to save the lives of adoptable dogs at the Orange County Shelter. Orange County activists are pleading with the County to end the policy of "appointment-only adoptions." They are asking the County to allow residents to walk-in to see adoptable animals at the July 27 committee meeting. Without a walk-in pet adoption policy, the animal-advocates said that pets in the shelter are often euthanized due to overcrowding. (Orange County Patch)
