OC Restaurant Health Closures: Baskin Robbins, Togo's, Texas BBQ, More
30 restaurants across Orange County closed for business as owners fixed potentially health-threatening problems.
ORANGE COUNTY, CA—Since mid—April, the Orange County Health Care Agency has shut down 30 restaurants in Orange County to address health concerns. The closures lasted less than a day to more than two weeks, according to the most recent restaurant closure data reviewed on May 13.
Each food establishment closure, or "Permit Suspension," occurs when inspectors discover a serious health hazard that needs immediate correction.
Those imminent health hazards can include vermin in critical food areas, sewage overflow, no water available, lack of "warm" (100 degrees or warmer) water for adequate handwashing and dishware washing, a lack of power, inoperable restrooms, fire, flood, or ongoing foodborne illness.

"Repeat violations can result in a permit suspension," a spokesperson for the Health Care Agency said. Permits can also be suspended if a restaurant owner or employee attempts to interfere with the health inspection.
"The main purpose of closures is to safeguard the health and safety of the public," the agency said. Closing a restaurant allows the restaurant owners to fully concentrate on eliminating the reason for the closure.

"Whether it is an Inspector Initiated Closure or an Owner Initiated Closure, a representative of Environmental Health will always verify that the reason for the closure has been corrected before reopening the food facility," they said.
