Here are the top stories in Orange County today:
- It was a one-in-a-million shot—and it happened on Saturday, Oct. 22, at the annual San Onofre Surf Club contest. Jordan Anast, a longtime surf photographer, had his lens focused on famous surfboard maker Tyler Warren riding a wave, when there was a splash in the water. In the photo, Anast caught what looked like a large dolphin that leaped out of the water behind the surfer. He later realized it was a great white shark. See the photo here: (Orange County Patch)
- In EV news, Tesla is expanding its presence in Orange County, brokerage real estate records show. The electric vehicle manufacturer signed a two-year lease for a 60,000-square-foot space in Costa Mesa. This is Tesla's third and largest location in Costa Mesa. "Michael Hefner and Trent Walker of Voit Real Estate Services represented the landlord in the transaction." The new Tesla site is "about 4 miles from Rivian Automotive Inc.’s new 32,000-square-foot Costa Mesa delivery and service center." (Subscription/Orange County Business Journal)
- A hazmat mystery hospitalized Starbucks workers in San Juan Capistrano Monday. Four employees of the Starbucks in the 30800 block of Gateway Place called 911 and were waiting outside for paramedics after having shortness of breath and not feeling well. Orange County fire authorities said all four employees were stable when paramedics arrived, but two were taken to the hospital. A hazmat crew was investigating. (KTLA Los Angeles)
- Hurray for the red, white, and blue! Celebrate Veteran's Day with a free concert on Friday, Nov. 11, at Irvine Regional Park. "This family-friendly concert features live performances from the Angel Force Band," and more, from noon-5 p.m. (OC Parks via Instagram)
