ANAHEIM, CA — Imagineers at Disneyland Resort are back at work on hotel properties, with a redesign of Paradise Pier, a resort spokesperson announced on Thursday. The stand-alone hotel, which offers views of Disney California Adventure and the famed World of Color water show, is located at 1717 South Disneyland Drive in Anaheim.

Many changes have occurred to incorporate Pixar into Disney California Adventure. Now the Pixar Place Hotel (seen in the background of this file photo as the old Paradise Pier Hotel) will be completed with a new look and feel in the winter of 2023/24. Photo: Courtesy, Ashley Ludwig

Disneyland Resort first took over the hotel property in 2000, theming it with the Disney California Adventure "old cartoon" flair with Donald and Goofy prominently displayed along with a beach theme. Now, the Pixar focus will draw from the multiple movies and beloved characters, according to a Disneyland spokesperson.

When completed, it will be the first fully Pixar-themed hotel in the United States, they said.

"Over the next few months, the lobby will begin to blend beloved Pixar imagery with the hotel’s contemporary setting," they said.

This winter, guests entering the lobby will be greeted by the Pixar Lamp balancing atop its primary colored beach ball instead of Goofy with a surfboard.

Guests arriving to stay at the hotel over the summer of 2023 can enjoy an all-new water play area inspired by “Finding Nemo,” featuring a 186-foot-long waterslide and pop-jet splash pad.

By the end of 2023, upgrades will include a family play court, planned for the outdoor deck, with activities inspired by Pixar’s famous short films.

The restaurants inside the hotel are also changing, according to the resort spokesperson. The Southern California-based eatery, Great Maple, will open its ground-floor restaurant in Pixar Place Hotel to hotel guests, theme park goers and local diners.

The chain also has locations in Newport Beach, Pasadena, and San Diego which feature gourmet coffee and teas, maple-themed pastries, and breakfast dishes. Diners who eat later can enjoy a broad selection of salads, sandwiches, and burgers.

Though it is changing from Paradise Pier Hotel to Pixar Place Hotel, that private entrance will remain open to registered hotel guests.

Be aware the hotel will be experiencing construction during stays through the end of the year, which may cause a headache or two to guests. That has not affected prices, which remain upwards of $534 per night for a standard room.

Updates as of April suggest the following information:

  • Hotel amenities will remain open, including the direct entrance for hotel Guests into Disney California Adventure Park.
  • A self-serve market with food and beverage options is available in the lobby area. Guests will also have access to dining and recreation at the other Disneyland Resort hotels—Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa and the Disneyland Hotel.
  • Starting September 26, 2022, the check-in process will move to the Pacific Ballroom. Guests will be required to enter via the hotel's rear entrance.
  • Mickey in Paradise merchandise has relocated to the Pacific Ballroom. The Pacific Ballroom will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily with limited offerings for Guests to purchase.
  • The ATM located on the first floor is currently unavailable. Guests can access ATMs in the main lobbies of Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa and the Disneyland Hotel.
  • The pools at Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel are currently unavailable, but Guests staying at the hotel can access the pools at the Disneyland Hotel. Cast will provide transportation to Disneyland Hotel pools during daily operating hours—10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (The pools are supposed to reopen at Pixar Pier Hotel this summer, though a date has not yet been released.)
  • The fireworks viewing deck on the third floor is currently unavailable.
  • The Fitness Center at Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel is currently unavailable. Guests staying at the hotel can use the Fitness Center at the Disneyland Hotel.
