Here are the top 3 stories today in Orange County:
- An O.C. teen developed a new technology that can help predict wildfires. Ryan Honary, a teenager from Newport Coast, developed a system to warn what direction a fire that has just started is moving. Honary's system combines elements from a fire detector he developed when he was in fifth grade, with artificial intelligence that "helps predict where a fire might be headed." Using an app, the now-ninth grader said he hopes to send alerts to people in the fire's path and to send information to firefighters to "help save lives and homes." Way to go! (Spectrum News 1)
- Meet Maxx, Dax, and Kane—the three K9s assigned to the Custody Division of the O.C. Sheriff's Department. These highly trained dogs sniff out narcotics, electronic devices and conduct regular searches of the O.C. jails. Custody K9 teams also search "buildings, bags, open areas, cells, and many other places." Maxx is a 7-year-old Labrador who loves food, water, and walks. Dax is an 8-year-old German shepherd who loves to dig, jump, and fetch. Kane is a 2-year-old Malinois that "brings excitement, high energy, and strong work ethic," the O.C. Sheriff's Department posted recently on social media. (Orange County Sheriff's Department, CA via Facebook)
- Welcome Rakkan Ramen— a new O.C. ramen spot with a plant-based twist. Rakkan Ramen is the first Raman restaurant to bring "plant-based" ramen from Japan to Orange County. The O.C. Rakkan Ramen location opened at the District at Tustin Legacy on Aug 29. If you're looking for plant-based Raman in Orange County, you will find it in Tustin! (Los Angeles Times)
