Here are the top stories in Orange County today:

  1. Supporters are trying to get Gov. Gavin Newsom to sign a bill that they say will give police the tools they need to stop illegal noise pollution. Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (D-Irvine), who authored the bill, said, “Every Californian deserves to live in a community that is free from noise pollution that negatively impacts health and quality of life." Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, Chino Hills and Tustin support the bill. (Orange County Register via Facebook)
  2. This remarkable story had a such positive impact on our community, I had to include an update. Thousands of eager volunteers picked up trash and plastics Saturday at over 40 sites along Orange County beaches, channels, and parks to keep it out of the ocean, where it would pollute water and endanger sea life. Guess how much trash was collected in one day: more than 11,000 pounds! And that was only in Orange County. A big shout out to thousands of O.C. volunteers! (NBC Southern California)
  3. Meet "prolific British-American writer, journalist, and consummate adventurer" Simon Winchester, online on Sept. 20. Join Winchester for an Author Walk online Wednesday at 11 a.m. He is the author of over 30 books, including "The Professor and the Madman," "Pacific," "The Perfectionists," and most recently, "Land: How the Hunger for Ownership Shaped the Modern World." He will be talking about the themes of his books, that span "history, technology, and geology as well as the author's expeditions, including his path to becoming the acclaimed best-selling author." I couldn't have said it better. (Anaheim Calendar)
