1 Person Dead In SMC Apartment Building Fire: Police
First responders found one unit fully engulfed in flames and evacuated the building, police said.
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA — One person was found dead at an apartment fire Monday in South San Francisco, police said.
At around 4 a.m. on Monday, South San Francisco Police Department officers said they received calls about smoke and a fire alarm coming from an apartment building on the 500 block of Baden Avenue.
Police said they responded and found one unit fully engulfed and began to evacuate the building.

South San Francisco Fire Department crews extinguished the fire and limited damage to that unit, police said.
One person was found unresponsive in the unit and life-saving efforts were performed, but they were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Coroner’s Office is working to confirm the victim’s identity and cause of death.
