Man Arrested After Stealing Dump Truck and Crashing in Colma

A pursuit took police through South San Francisco and into Daly City where Hill crashed into an vehicle sending 3 people to the hospital.

Police have released the name of a suspect arrested after a pursuit of a stolen Mack dump truck that started in Colma and injured several people Thursday.

Police said they booked 36-year-old San Francisco resident Mark Edward Hill into the San Mateo County Jail at about 3 a.m. after he received treatment at San Francisco General Hospital for minor injuries in a crash that ended the pursuit.

The pursuit started when a patrol officer noticed a suspicious dump truck near 1300 Isabelle Circle in Colma at 12:18 a.m. Thursday, police said. The truck was reported stolen out of San Francisco so the officer tried to stop the driver. Hill did not stop. He tried the ram the officer’s vehicle and then drove away from the area, according to police.

A pursuit took police through South San Francisco and into Daly City where Hill crashed into an occupied vehicle. He got out of the truck and tried to run from the crash scene, but was quickly apprehended, according to police.

Police said they booked Hill into jail on suspicion of seven crimes: possession of a stolen vehicle, felony assault on a peace officer, evading a peace officer, felony hit-and-run, felony driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, and committing a felony while out on bail.

Police said they are also investigating whether Hill committed commercial burglaries and vehicle thefts in the Bay Area. The three occupants of the vehicle the truck crashed into were injured in the crash and remain under observation at a hospital, according to police.

The victims are a 43-year-old woman, 20-year-old man and 16-year-old male, according to police.
