Pacifica Pier Section Reopened in April 2023

West-facing deck still closed off, with no definitive repair date.

Update: The damaged section of the pier was reopened in April, 2023, filled in with cyclone fencing.

"Pacifica" means "peace" - or, perhaps it means "patience". As with many other projects that need tending to in our town, residents and visitors must wait an indefinite time for results. The pier - our most visited resource - has been fenced-off since January 14, 2021, without a specific date for repair. The west-facing panel is not the only part of the pier that needs work - it is just the most obvious. Our environment requires extra vigilance in maintaining the pier and other structures facing often harsh battering throughout our ocean-facing, wind-blown regions.

Due to a surplus in funding for local projects through the state budget due to a surplus, according to Assembly Speaker pro Tem Kevin Mullin (D-South San Francisco), Pacifica will receive $7.75 million for the Esplanade Infrastructure Preservation Project; of that, $500,000. was requested for repair of the pier.

In Pacifica, asking "when" these repairs will be accomplished requires patience. Or, resignation.
