'Swatting' Report Investigated By Pacifica Police

Police received a false report of multiple murder by a person who claimed to have an assault rifle and was threatening children.

PACIFICA, CA — A Pacifica home was the target of a false report of multiple murder by a person who claimed to have an assault rifle and was threatening children, police said Friday.

Officers responded about 11:24 p.m. Thursday to a report of a person saying he'd just killed his parents and was threatening children inside a home in the 500 block of Beaumont Boulevard, police said.

Pacifica officers entered the home and found no evidence that residents and children there had been harmed.

Police said the report was a "swatting" incident, in which a false report of an emergency is used to provoke a SWAT team response.
