Emergency Training Course Begins In Pacific Palisades

PACIFIC PALISADES, CA — Emergency officials are seeking Pacific Palisades residents interested in getting trained to help their neighbors in the event of disasters.

American Legion Palisades Post 283 is hosting a seven-week emergency preparedness training that begins Tuesday night. The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) course covers disaster awareness, psychology, medical operations, fire suppression, search & rescue and terrorism, according to organizers.

"This comprehensive program is designed not just to educate but also to empower participants, ensuring they are well-prepared to assist in times of emergency," organizers wrote. "This initiative underscores the importance of community preparedness in dealing with unforeseen disasters, reinforcing the role of trained individuals in augmenting professional emergency services.

"For those in Pacific Palisades, this is a call to become proactive in safeguarding your community."

The course, which runs through Feb. 20, will be led by firefighters Michael Perez and Nathan Espinosa.

The class had an initial limit of 25 people, but organizers have urged people to add their names to the waitlist so they can include up to 60 people.
