Homeless Campsite Proposal At Will Rogers Beach: PPCC Meeting
The Pacific Palisades Community Council will again discuss the controversial proposal at Thursday's meeting.

PACIFIC PALISADES, CA — This month's lone Pacific Palisades meeting will again focus on Councilmember Mike Bonin's proposal to implement a secured campsite for the homeless at Will Rogers State Beach Parking lot. The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday and will be held on Zoom.
The link to the meeting is available here.
PPCC continues to oppose the idea of a homeless campsite and sent another letter to officials this week restating their case with links to current events, including a woman who recently sued the city after she was hit by a car while walking near a homeless encampment in Hollywood.

"We have provided the City with ample notice of dangerous conditions on PCH vis a vis unhoused individuals with mental or addiction issues who frequent the Palisades beach and bluff areas and are repeatedly struck by cars – sometimes fatally –when the individuals jay walk or otherwise wander into traffic in the freeway-like conditions," PPCC said. "This occurred as recently as last weekend in Pacific Palisades."
"It is the first duty of elected officials to protect public safety," the community council added. "For City Councilmembers to sanction the siting of housing for the unhoused at the WRSB parking lot adjacent to PCH – knowing of these dangerous conditions – would be reckless in the extreme and an abdication of its responsibility to the public."

Currently, the City Administrative Officer is still reviewing the project for feasibility. The proposal is not set for discussion on the next City Council Homelessness and Poverty Meeting this Thursday.
The community council will also discuss updates on current city council redistricting, and a proposal to add a metro station on the UCLA campus.
