LOS ANGELES, CA — The final, certified tally was announced Friday for the May 14 runoff election for the District 5 seat on the Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education, showing that Jackie Goldberg won the seat with more than 71 percent of the vote.

Goldberg took her seat on the board Monday, even though some votes were still being tallied (board members voted unanimously to temporarily appoint Goldberg to the seat so she could get to work).

Goldberg received 20,552 votes, to 8,253 for Heather Repenning.

On June 4, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is scheduled to declare the election officially concluded.

The seat had been vacant since last July, when Ref Rodriguez resigned after pleading guilty to conspiracy and other charges for laundering campaign donations from family and friends.
