Non-Profit to Honor Actor and Humanitarian at 9th Pali Film Festival

Friends of Film gathers May 2 and May 4 in Pacific Palisades to honor German actor Udo Kier and Fr. Greg Boyle of Homeboy Industries.

Friends Of Film, the Pacific Palisades-based non-profit, announced April 16 that it will be honoring German actor Udo Kier with its lifetime achievement award and Fr. Greg Boyle of Los Angeles-based Homeboy Industries with its humanitarian of the year award respectively, on two separate events on May 2 and May 4 as part
of the ninth annual toned-down Pacific Palisades Film Festival.

Other events planned for the summer have yet to be announced.

"We are pleased to welcome two new Palisades' organizations, the Villa Aurora and Paulist Productions, two extremely architecturally and culturally significant Palisadian organizations, to the Friends Of Film team," said Bob Sharka, founder and executive director of Friends Of Film, in a released statement.

The festival opens at the Villa Aurora on May 2, 2013 with a sunset cocktail party high in the hills of Pacific Palisades and a presentation of Kier's award. A film screening is still pending.

"Kier is truly one of the hardest working actors – and true class acts - in the industry today," added Sharka. "He's worked in over 200 American and European productions through the years."

On Saturday, May 4, Paulist Productions - located down the hill at the beach on PCH at the former location of Thelma Todd’s Café - closes the festivities, hosting a sunset cocktail party and screening of Academy Award winner, Freida Mock’s new film "G-Dog," the name the former gang members call Boyle. Boyle, author of the New York Times best-seller, Tatoos on the Heart: The Boundless Power of Compassion will be on-hand to accept the award.

"I can't think of a person that has done more to help people get back on their feet and lead more productive lives than Father Greg," said Sharka.

Tickets for both events are $100 and available at the Friends Of Film website.
