2 Arrested At Palm Desert Checkpoint

PALM DESERT, CA -- Two people were arrested at a Palm Desert checkpoint this weekend for allegedly driving under the influence. The checkpoint was held from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Dec. 22 at Washington Street and Fred Waring Drive.
More than 1,200 cars went through the checkpoint, while 304 cars were screened. Sixteen field sobriety tests were conducted. Twelve drivers were cited or arrested for operating a vehicle unlicensed or while suspended or revoked, Another eight cars were towed, police said.
In recent years, California has seen a disturbing increase in drug-impaired driving crashes. Studies of California drivers have shown that 30 percent of drivers in fatal crashes had one or more drugs in their systems, police said.
