2 Hikers Airlifted From RivCo Desert Trail

Paramedics were on standby to meet the pair, who were hoisted from a trail in the Coachella Valley.

INDIO, CA — Two hikers were rescued by air from a trail in Riverside County on Friday, authorities said.

At noon, deputies were sent to the Indio Hills Badlands Trail in Indio to assist the hikers, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department told Patch.

A caller told the dispatcher she was hiking with a friend and felt dehydrated. Ultimately, she was unsure if they could make it off the trail, officials said.

A rescue helicopter hoisted both hikers out and dropped them off at a location where paramedics were waiting to meet them.

Their condition was not disclosed, and no other details were immediately available.

The trail is a five-mile loop that is considered moderately challenging, according to AllTrails. Hiking can become dangerous when temperatures are elevated. As of 2:43 p.m., it was 94 degrees in Indio.
