2+ Pounds Of Heroin Found In Valley Traffic Stop, Police Say

Police say the drugs were found during a traffic stop in Cathedral City.

CATHEDRAL CITY, CA — Two Cathedral City men are behind bars following a traffic stop in which more than two pounds of heroin was discovered, police reported this week.

Uriel Delacruz-Rodriguez, 21, and Alejandro Rocha, 27, were in a vehicle that was stopped around 1:30 p.m. Saturday near Whispering Palms Trail and Baristo Road for an unspecified traffic violation, Cmdr. Paul Herrera said.

"The driver was found to be unlicensed and the vehicle was towed," according to Herrera. "During the inventory of the vehicle prior to impound, officers located approximately 2.36 pounds of heroin inside the vehicle."

Herrera said Delacruz-Rodriguez was behind the wheel, while Rocha was the passenger.

Both men were booked at the Larry D. Smith Correctional facility in Banning on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance for sale and transportation of a controlled substance over 2.2 pounds, with bail set at $200,000 for each, Herrera said.
