Annual Coachella Valley Economic Summit is Friday in Palm Desert

The annual Coachella Valley Economic Summit will be held in Palm Desert on Friday Nov. 1.

Themed "Healthy Progress," the noontime event hosted by the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership is expected to draw about 1,000 people at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa.

Inland Empire economist John Husing will discuss the local economy and related trends. Husing specializes in Southern California's economy and is an expert on the movement of goods around the region. For decades he has focused on the Inland Empire, studying its changing economic infrastructure and the growth of Riverside and San Bernardino counties, according to the CVEP.

"The event will focus on viable approaches for future economic growth and prosperity in the valley, as well as report on the progress of the implementation of the initiatives defined in the Coachella Valley Economic Blueprint," said CVEP president and CEO Thomas Flavin.

The blueprint, released in 2009, is a strategy for how the Coachella Valley can compete for "high-value" jobs, according to the CVEP.
