Brian Tully Promoted To Indio Police Chief

Indio Chief of Police Mike Washburn had been out on a personal leave of absence. Tully will now take over.

INDIO, CA—Indio Assistant Chief of Police Brian Tully will take over his department, it was announced Monday.

Tully was promoted to chief of police, following in the footsteps of Chief Mike Washburn who has been out on a personal leave of absence.

"The City of Indio and Indio Police Department would also like to express gratitude for outgoing Chief of Police Mike Washburn for his service during his tenure. His leadership and efforts as the Chief of Police will be remembered and appreciated," a city statement read.

Tully has served with the Indio Police Department since 2018, most recently as assistant chief overseeing the field services division and various other department functions.

“With a distinguished career, marked by exemplary service and profound commitment to the safety of our community, Chief Tully is well-equipped to lead the Indio Police Department into the future,” said City Manager Bryan Montgomery. “We are confident that under his leadership, Indio Police Department will continue to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and community engagement.”

Tully began his law enforcement career at the San Bernardino Police Department and has over 25 years of professional policing experience. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration degree. According to the city of Indio, he is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, California POST Command College, and the West Point Leadership Program.

Tully and his wife, Debra, reside in Indio and have three adult children.

An official swearing-in ceremony for Tully will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Indio City Council Chambers, 150 Civic Center Drive.
