An investigation revealed that about 3:20 a.m. Saturday, the driver of a white Toyota truck was traveling on state Route 111, when the vehicle "struck an object in the roadway," prompting the vehicle's onboard OnStar system to initiate a 911call, the department said.
Numerous law enforcement agencies, including California Highway Patrol and the city's police and fire departments, responded and conducted an extensive search of the area but were unable to locate what the truck hit, police said.

The driver sustained an unspecified injury, but cooperated with investigators before being taken to a hospital. The driver was not impaired, police said.
Police said the crash occurred more than half a mile south of where the Toyota came to a rest, which "was unknown to responding personnel during the initial nighttime search."
Investigators determined that the driver did not leave the road and "the incident has been classified as non-criminal."
The identity of the pedestrian was being withheld pending notification of next of kin. According to the coroner's bureau, the victim was a Cherry Valley resident.
