CHP Investigate's Woman's Death In Indio: Public Assistance Needed

Police are looking for witnesses to a Friday crash on Oasis Street and Highway 111.

INDIO, CA — Riverside County Sheriff's Department is investigating the death of a 49-year-old woman struck Friday at an Indio crosswalk.

Shortly before 7:30 p.m., Indio officers responded to the scene where an SUV had struck a pedestrian on Oasis Street, south of Highway 111, shortly before 7:30 p.m. Friday, according to the Indio Police Department.

Police said the driver of a Ford Escape was traveling southbound when he failed to stop for the woman in the crosswalk.

"The woman was taken by ambulance to Desert Regional Medical Center, where she succumbed to a head injury two days later," they said.

The department did not identify the driver or the woman, and the driver remained at the scene afterward.

Police said they were "seeking the public's [assistance]" with the investigation. Anyone with information about the case was encouraged to contact Officer Custic at the Indio Police Department at 760-391-4132.
