2 Injured In Coachella Valley Walmart Fire

The fire prompted evacuations of customers and employees, officials said.

INDIO, CA -- Two people were injured Tuesday after a blaze erupted inside a Walmart store in the Coachella Valley area. The fire was reported at 10:26 a.m. in the 82400 block of Avenue 42 in Indio, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The fire was contained about 30 minutes later, but forced the evacuations of customers and employees, officials said.

One firefighter was transported to an area hospital for evaluation for non-life threatening injuries. An additional civilian was treated at the scene for minor injuries, officials said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
