College Of The Desert Celebrates Nursing Graduates

Around 40 students have earned Associate Degrees and are now eligible to take the licensing examination to become registered nurses.

From College of the Desert: College of the Desert (COD) will celebrate the newest nursing graduates at a colorful pinning ceremony on Thursday, December 15th at the McCallum Theatre. Approximately 40 students have earned the Associate Degree in Nursing and are now eligible to take the licensing examination to become registered nurses. The ceremony begins at 2 p.m.

Addressing the students and guests at the ceremony will be Carol Scobie, Interim Director, Nursing and Allied Health. Joel L. Kinnamon, Ed.D., Superintendent/President, will speak about the importance of the College’s nursing program to the Coachella Valley. While students are pinned by COD Nursing Assistant Professor Sarah Fry, Health Sciences Counselor, Ana Stockwell and Nursing Associate Professor Anna Reber-Franz will read comments from the students thanking friends and family for their support. Students will recite the nurse’s pledge led by Nursing Instructor Lisa Kinsey.

The nursing program at College of the Desert has a proven track record of excellence. Fifteen local medical facilities and all three valley hospitals partner with the College to provide nursing students with clinical requirements to graduate. The faculty in the program set high educational standards to ensure students are successful transitioning into the workforce. Most graduates stay in the Coachella Valley to care for local residents.
