Transgender Nonprofit Accuses RivCo Of Discrimination: Report
The Palm Springs-based organization says that the county wrongly withheld $132,000 in federal funding.
PALM SPRINGS, CA — A nonprofit that was created to help transgender people has filed a complaint against Riverside County, accusing the jurisdiction of withholding $132,000 in federal funding, The Press-Enterprise reported.
The director of the Transgender Health & Wellness Center, headquartered in Palm Springs, believes the action was linked to White House directions to pull federal funding for transgender services, according to the newspaper.
In November, the organization filed a complaint against the county with the state's attorney general's office. It says it “was denied full and equal access to services."

The money in question comes from a program run by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, which gives Riverside County money to be shared with groups such as the nonprofit to prevent residents from facing homelessness.
In response, the county says it ended its work with the center after finding “areas where contractual requirements were not fully met," Nathan Hultgren, a spokesperson for the county's Housing and Workforce Solutions Department told The Press-Enterprise.

“As an administrative entity, the county must ensure compliance with all federal grant conditions while ensuring services remain accessible and responsive to community needs,” he said.
