'Deathtrap' Hits Palm Canyon Theatre Stage

Deathtrap runs April 27-30 at the Palm Canyon Theatre.

From Palm Canyon Theatre: One set, plus five characters, plus two acts, equals a comedy-thriller you won’t want to miss! Deathtrap runs April 27-30 at the Palm Canyon Theatre.

Written by Ira Levin, Deathtrap holds the record for the longest running comedy-thriller on Broadway and was also nominated for the Tony Award for Best Play in 1978. Deathtrap was adapted into a film starring Christopher Reeve, Michael Caine and Dyan Cannon in 1982.

The Palm Canyon theatre’s production stars Steve Fisher as Sidney Bruhl, a playwright with writer’s block. Bruhl is also a professor, who discovers one of his student’s scripts is so good, that it may be worth murdering the man for. The student, Clifford Anderson, is played by Nick Edwards. Shirley LeMaster plays Mrs. Bruhl, who admits to wanting Anderson dead, so her husband can claim the script – titled Deathtrap – for his own.

Later in the play, Mr. Bruhl’s attorney, played by Larry Dyekman, enters the plot, as does a psychic Helga ten Dorp, played by Morgana Corelli. These additional characters contribute to the plot twists that keep this two-act play moving quickly through the “who done it,” and “who’ll do it!”

Dr. William “Bill” Layne is directing Deathtrap. Costume designs are by Derik Shopinski. Sets and lighting are by J.W. Layne.
