Desert Sands USD To Pay $1,377,000 Over Next 3 Years For School Resource Officers

The agreement was approved by the district and is pending final county sign-off. The contract is in effect through June 30, 2028.

PALM DESERT, CA — A three-year $1,377,000 agreement for school resource officers in the Desert Sands Unified School District is expected to be ratified and approved Tuesday by the Riverside County Board of Supervisors.

The agreement, which the DSUSD approved, runs through June 30, 2028, and includes two full-time sworn deputy SROs provided by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

The SROs will be assigned to campuses across the district. SRO duties will include class presentations on relevant law enforcement issues, patrolling school campuses, investigating crimes, maintaining order on campuses, counseling students and their parents, and serving as liaisons at school sites, according to the agreement.

The SROs will also serve as liaisons between district employees, school attendance review boards, the Probation Department, and other law enforcement officials.

The sheriff's office and the district "desire to work cooperatively in this school community policing approach ...," according to the agreement.
