DUI Checkpoint Announced In Palm Desert

PALM DESERT, CA — A DUI checkpoint is planned in Palm Desert, and motorists caught driving impaired and subsequently convicted will face about $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license, authorities announced Wednesday.

The checkpoint is scheduled from 6 p.m. Dec. 1 to 2 a.m. Dec. 2 at an undisclosed location within city limits, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired-driving-related crashes, the law enforcement agency said.

During the operation, deputies will be looking for drivers under the influence of alcohol, narcotics and prescription drugs.

"Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Sgt. Don Olson said. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety."
