Coachella Drivers: DUI Patrols To Ramp Up On This Day
Police will search for impaired drivers in a few undisclosed locations during peak hours. What to know.
COACHELLA, CA — Police will ramp up patrols to search for intoxicated or drivers under the influence of drugs in the Coachella area on Friday, May 9, officials announced.
The Riverside County Sheriff's Department said the patrol period will take place from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.
“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Deputy Gabriel Rojo said. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety.”

Police hope to improve public safety through this effort by removing those who may be drunk or high behind the wheel from the road.
Police warn that it isn't just alcohol that can impair driving. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. And while recreational marijuana is legal, driving under the influence of it is not.
