DUI Checkpoint Scheduled This Weekend In Palm Desert
DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired-driving-related crashes, the sheriff's department said.

PALM DESERT, CA — A DUI checkpoint is planned in Palm Desert this week, and motorists caught driving impaired and subsequently convicted will face about $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license, authorities announced.
The checkpoint is scheduled from 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, to 2 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at an undisclosed location within city limits, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

During the operation, deputies will be looking for drivers under the influence of any substances that can impair driving, including alcohol, narcotics, some prescription and over-the-counter medications, and cannabis.
"Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk," Deputy Leyva said. "Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety."

According to the sheriff's department, a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration provided funding for the program.
