DUI Crackdown Set For Aug. 1 By Palm Desert Sheriff's Station

PALM DESERT, CA — Deputies with the Palm Desert Sheriff's Station will be out in force Thursday, Aug. 1, looking for motorists suspected of driving under the influence.
The crackdown will occur from 4 p.m. to 12 a.m., according to the sheriff's department.
The Palm Desert Sheriff's Station patrols Indian Wells, Palm Desert and Rancho Mirage, and the western half of the Coachella Valley’s unincorporated areas.

Motorists caught driving impaired and convicted of a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
Alcohol, cannabis, illegal narcotics, some prescription drugs and over-the-counter medications can interfere with driving, the agency warned.

"Impaired driving is preventable," Deputy Paul Abrego said. "It’s a choice. If you’ve been drinking or consuming drugs that impair, make the right choice by finding a sober driver or alternate transportation to take you places."
Funding for the Aug. 1 crackdown was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
