According to the Palm Springs Police Department, the man accused of stabbing Xol was arrested later the same morning after calling 911 and claiming he was assaulted overnight. Police arrived at an address on North Sunrise Way to speak with the man, and officers determined he was a suspect in the earlier stabbing.
Police identified the suspect as Richard Joseph Gonzales, 34, of Cathedral City. He was booked into the John Benoit Detention Center on suspicion of attempted murder. According to jail records, he remains in custody with no bail and is now charged with murder.
Gonzales pleaded not guilty to the charge after the amended complaint was filed Monday. At an earlier arraignment hearing, he pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and denied sentence-enhancing allegations of using a weapon during a felony and great bodily injury/domestic violence. The next court date is a felony settlement conference scheduled for Dec. 18.
Police have not publicly shared details about a potential motive for the stabbing.
