Fatal Palm Springs Crash Likely Triggered By Medical Emergency: Police

The crash was reported at approximately 8 a.m. Monday at the intersection of East Palm Canyon Drive and South Sunrise Way.

PALM SPRINGS, CA — A man died at a hospital Monday after suffering a possible medical emergency while driving and crashing into a traffic signal in Palm Springs.

Officers responded at 8 a.m. Monday to the intersection of East Palm Canyon Drive and South Sunrise Way to a report of a collision, a Palm Springs Police Department spokeswoman told City News Service.

It was believed that the man experienced a medical emergency and hit a traffic signal, which fell onto an unoccupied parked vehicle, she said. The man was subsequently taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 8:30 a.m.

Traffic was closed in all directions at the intersection for over two hours due to the collision, but it has since reopened, according to police.
