'Fill The Bus' Thanksgiving Food Drive Underway In Palm Desert

MECCA, CA — The Sunline Transit Agency announced Tuesday that it will host its 15th annual Fill The Bus Holiday Food Drive in an effort to help people in need during the holiday season.
Two supermarkets will have a bus parked from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday to collect non-perishable food items and household products, according to a statement from the agency.
The buses will be parked outside of Walmart, 34-500 Monterey Ave. in Palm Desert, and Ralphs, 1733 East Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs.

"SunLine staff and volunteers from our beneficiary organizations will be onsite to accept donations, greet donors, and assist with drop-offs," CEO/General Manager of SunLine Transit Agency Lauren Skiver said in a statement.
Community members interested in donating can also drop off turkeys, frozen meats, assorted trimmings for holiday meals, toiletries, personal hygiene products and diapers.

The Galilee Center, located in Mecca, and Food Now, located in Desert Hot Springs, will distribute the donations collected from the Fill the Bus event, according to STA officials.
"Fill the Bus collects tons of food and other items each year with the help of our generous local community, and we appreciate how everyone steps up to make the holidays brighter for everyone in the Coachella Valley," Skiver said.
