PALM SPRINGS, CA — Motorists making their way west as they return from the holiday weekend were facing gridlock Sunday on a 15-mile stretch of Interstate 10 between Palm Springs and Cabazon.

Bumper-to-bumper traffic on the westbound side of the freeway was moving at under 20 mph for much of that stretch, according to Sigalert.com.

A vehicle stall reported at about 2:30 p.m. near the Highway 111 off- ramp near Whitewater was compounding the traffic jam.
