"Due to heavy traffic volumes on this major east-west connector route, the existing roadway pavement periodically needs repair to restore its structural integrity and ride quality to transport goods and people through Southern California. By making the roadway safer and more reliable for drivers, and installing solar powered EV charging stations, Caltrans is supporting their mission to provide a safe and reliable transportation network that serves all people and respects the environment," according to the state agency.

Construction is expected to continue into 2025.
