UPDATE: Big Sand Embankment Cleared, Road in Palm Springs Reopens
Low visibility caused by blowing sand had resulted in Indian Canyon Drive in Palm Springs being temporarily closed to through traffic.

PALM SPRINGS: Indian Canyon Drive has been reopened between Tramview Road and Palm Springs Station Road, Palm Springs officials say. The road was shut down Thursday afternoon due to blowing sand that blocked parts of the road and caused low visibility.

PALM SPRINGS, CA -- Indian Canyon Drive is temporarily closed for northbound traffic from Tramview Road and for Southbound traffic starting from Palm Springs Station Rd due to blowing sand and low visibility caused by a sand embankment.
"Please do not drive around the barricades as you will likely be stuck in the sandstorm and will be cited," the Palm Springs Police Dept. announced in a Facebook post around 5 pm Thursday, March 28.

Authorities say motorists should use alternative routes until the street reopens; no estimate has been given regarding when a reopening might occur.
