The Living Desert Announces 'La Gran Fiesta'
La Gran Fiesta will be held in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month on Saturday, Oct. 15.

The Living Desert is proud to honor Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15. The celebration of culture at the zoo includes one free child admission for every paid adult on each Saturday and Sunday throughout and culminates in the annual La Gran Fiesta on Oct. 15.
“The Living Desert is proud to honor Hispanic Heritage Month,” said Allen Monroe, president/CEO of The Living Desert. “We invite everyone to learn more about our conservation efforts, take advantage of the weekend discount and enjoy La Gran Fiesta.”

Visitors are also invited to attend La Gran Fiesta from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The party is free with paid admission. Party-goers will enjoy musical entertainment from Mariachi groups to youth Folklorico dancers, arts and crafts and face-painting as well as authentic Mexican cuisine, including tacos and churros. Scavenger hunts will be held near the Mexican wolf (el lobo Mexicano), the jaguar, the caracara, sometimes called the Mexican Eagle, and other animals important in Hispanic culture. There will also be a variety of games and giveaways as highlights of the day’s celebrations. As a special gift, the first 1,000 guests will receive a pepper plant cultivated and grown at The Living Desert.
The Living Desert, located at 47900 Portola Ave., is open daily through Sept. 30 from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and Oct. 1 to May 31 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call (760) 346-5694 or visit the Living Desert website.
