A man was arrested Wednesday in Bakersfield and accused of seven felonies stemming from an alleged child sexual assault in Thermal, a sheriff's sergeant said Sept. 5.
The assault was reported in late June and it allegedly occurred in the 76000 block of Pierce Street, Sgt. Steve DaSilva of the Thermal Station said in a statement.
"Investigators identified the suspect as Elpidio Torres-Salinas, 25 years old from Thermal, and obtained a felony warrant for his arrest," DaSilva said.
On Wednesday Sept. 4, members of the sheriff's Fugitive Warrant Enforcement Team assisted by U.S. Marshals located and arrested Torres-Salinas in Bakersfield, DaSilva said.
Torres-Salinas was booked Thursday morning at Indio Jail on suspicion of seven felonies including aggravated child sexual assault, rape and sex penetration by force, according to inmate records. He was held Thursday evening on $1 million bail and he had a court date scheduled Friday in Indio.
