Man Fatally Wounded in Thousand Palms Shooting, Suspect and Others Detained

A man was fatally wounded in a shooting Friday morning in Thousand Palms and the alleged shooter was among multiple subjects detained by law enforcement, a sheriff's sergeant said.

Deputies were dispatched to a reported shooting near the 30300 block of Monte Vista Way at 9:48 a.m. Nov. 1, Sgt. Jim Erickson of the sheriff's Central Homicide Unit said in a statement.

"When the deputies arrived on scene they found one Hispanic male adult suffering from an unknown number of gunshot wounds," Erickson said. "The shooter and other subjects were detained without incident."

Medical aid was summoned for the shooting victim, who was taken to a local area hospital, Erickson said.

The victim was pronounced deceased from his injuries about 10:25 a.m., Erickson said.

Investigators from the Palm Desert Station and the Central Homicide Unit were dispatched to the scene to take charge, according to Erickson.

"This is an active homicide investigation," Erickson said.
