Man Standing On I-10 In Coachella Valley Struck, Killed By Motorist

The 61-year-old Colorado Springs man was pronounced dead at the scene.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — A 61-year-old man was standing on Interstate 10 Monday evening when he was struck and killed by a motorist in the Coachella Valley, authorities said.

Erasto Dominguez-Castro of Colorado Springs, Colo., was struck and killed at approximately 6:07 p.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to information from the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner's Bureau and the California Highway Patrol.

For unknown reasons, Dominguez-Castro was standing in the number 4 lane of westbound Interstate 10, east of state Route 62, when a Nissan Maxima driver hit him, the CHP reported.

The Nissan driver from Arcadia did not sustain or complain of injuries, according to the CHP.

The number 4 lane on westbound I-10 was closed for nearly three hours to allow the CHP to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
