Modernism Week Opens With Party At Mid-Century Prototype
The party kicks off the 11-day festival with nearly 350 events around Palm Springs.

PALM SPRINGS, CA — Modernism Week, an annual celebration of mid- century design and architecture, begins Thursday with an opening night party.
The party that kicks off the 11-day festival with nearly 350 events around Palm Springs will be hosted at the Indian Canyons Golf Resort, which was designed by Donald Wexler and Richard Harrison, according to statement from Modernism Week. Wexler and Harrison are famous for designing seven experimental steel-framed houses in Palm Springs that are early examples of customizable pre- fabricated homes, Dezeen magazine said.
Other highly anticipated events are the Red Carpet Gala at the Christopher Kennedy Compound, where the Modernism Week Show House will be officially unveiled to the public on Feb. 16, as well as a night at the Sinatra Estate on Feb. 23, Modernism Week announced.

Outside of the touchstone events, tours, films, lectures and exhibitions will be available through Feb. 24. Some events are already sold out, but tickets to a variety of design celebrations are still available.
Appreciation of mid-century design is not the only goal of Modernism Week, as the nonprofit, charitable organization provides scholarships to local students pursuing higher education in the fields of architecture and design. The organization also supports state and local groups in their pursuit to preserve modernist architecture throughout California.
